Pretty much everyone who owns a computer will have some form of internet security for it these days. It’s vital to make sure that unauthorised users can’t access your personal information that you have stored on your computer. However, many people haven’t always realised that the same applies to their mobile phone – if it has internet access, it is just as susceptible to attack from viruses, Trojans or worms that are all over the web.
You might be able to tell if your phone has a virus, if the battery suddenly drains really quickly or functions begin to freeze up. However you might not know if it’s been taken over by a virus that is sending mass spam texts to all your contacts, or sending SMS messages to a premium rate number – until you get a horrendous bill, that is.
It’s easy to find a programme that will give your mobile phone protection from viruses, etc. The problem is narrowing down the choice, as there are so many options available, ranging from free antivirus downloads to one, three or five year pay-for subscriptions.
Think about the following when making your choice:
Compatibility
Check whether a programme you are considering is compatible with your mobile phone before you do anything else. Your mobile provider will be able to tell you this.
Features
Look at the features on offer and decide what you need. You may not need parental control or GPS find, for example, and the more features a programme has, the more memory and battery it will require. Get enough features without overloading your phone.
Antivirus or security suite
Some people advise that instead of just getting antivirus software, you’re better off getting an internet security suite for your mobile phone. This includes antivirus, but also anti-spyware, spam filter and firewall.
The most important thing is not to delay and get some antivirus software for your phone today!
